Director, Spencer County Public Library
BMA congratulates Spencer County Public Library upon selecting their new Director, Michael Richter.
Michael has worked in public libraries for more than twenty years- currently serving as the Director of the Bath County (KY) Memorial Library. He began his career in New Jersey as a children’s services assistant, developing programming for families who spoke English as a second language and later working in the Cincinnati suburbs in what was at the time the busiest public library location in Kentucky. More recently, as Director of Bath County, he has completed the renovation and expansion of a century old building in a National Historic District. He also manages the Kentucky Seed Library consortium, which has provided heirloom seed libraries to more than twenty county libraries in Kentucky. Michael received his MLIS from Wayne State University; he has served the Kentucky Public Library Association as chair for the Library Management Skills Roundtable, and as a member of the KPLA Advocacy Committee.
