Anti-Bias Statement

We believe that having more and different voices at any table elevates discussion and broadens points of view.  Data has demonstrated that diverse perspectives improve the quality of decision-making and can lead to a more creative, inventive, and effective team.  When Board members, staff, library supporters, and users bring different backgrounds and experiences to the library, their unique views shape how libraries can best serve all and make the library feel more welcoming, warm, and inclusive to everyone in the community. 

It is our goal to support and nurture diverse voices in the library profession and to work toward eliminating bias in the interview and selection process.  We will achieve this by sharing anti-bias documents with clients, presenting and supporting diverse candidates, and calling attention to any bias that presents itself in the search process.  We seek to be both an ally and a champion for our diverse colleagues because the best candidates for leadership positions in the library profession are those who are given the opportunity to lead and also the support needed to succeed.
