
Congratulations to Des Moines Public Library upon selecting Melissa McCollum as their Library Director!
Melissa’s Library and Parks and Recreation leadership roles span over twenty years and several diverse communities in southern California. Dedicated to reinforcing the role of libraries as community hubs for information, learning, belonging, and innovation, she has served as Library Director and Community Services Director for the City of El Segundo; Community Library Manager for the Manhattan Beach Library, West Hollywood Library, and Lawndale Library as part of LA County Library; and as Senior Recreation Manager for the City of Manhattan Beach.
A native of Des Moines, Melissa attended Des Moines public schools (Greenwood, Callanan, and Roosevelt) before earning a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College and a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan. She’s a recipient of the I Love My Librarian Award, presented annually by the American Library Association, The New York Times, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York to ten librarians across the country for outstanding service to their communities.
